THOMPSON, Conn (WWLP) – D.J. Shaw took down the win in the 75 lap Pro All Star Series North Super Late Model season opener during the Icebreaker on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park after a hard-fought battle for the lead with Derek Griffith. Griffith took down the win in the event last year over D.J Shaw.
Griffith and Shaw battle for the lead throughout the race. Gabe Brown out of Center Conway, NH led early in the race. Griffith took the lead from Brown but by lap 25. Shaw was trying to take the lead from Griffith. Shaw took the lead from Griffith with 30 laps to go. Griffith retook the lead in the event as Ray Christian, III tried to open the door and get into contention for the lead.
Shaw was using the bottom lane the whole race but decided to use the outside groove and take the lead with six laps to go in the event to win the 75 lap event.
Shaw told 22News about the win after the race
“That was awesome. That’s what you dream of as a racer. Finally to check Thompson. It’s been so close. It’s been me and him (Griffith.) To finally get one here is pretty sweet. I wish it was a little less dramatic. It’s still a win so I am happy,” said Shaw
Griffith finished second. Ray Christian, III finished in third. Johnny Clark finished in fourth and Jake Johnson rounded out the top five. Garrett Hall a former winner in PASS at Thompson finished in sixth. Gabe Brown finished in seventh. Travis Benjamin finished in eighth. Nick Sweet finished in ninth and Devin O’Connell rounded out the top 10.
The next event for the PASS North Super Late Models will be held at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME on Sunday afternoon, April 14. The race program will begin at 1:30 p.m.
