THOMPSON, Conn (WWLP) – Chase Dowling scored an emotional win during the 50 lap Valenti Modified Racing Series opener at the Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Saturday.
Dowling started in second and led the first 30 laps of the event. Ronnie Williams took the lead on lap 31. Dowling would take the lead on with two laps to go to win the event.
Dowling told 22News that emotionally this win means a lot.
“When an owner calls you from a passing of probably the greatest drivers in modifieds to replace means a lot. Last year we finished second four times in a row and was so close. Our car was really good on long runs and on the short runs Ronnie (Williams) was obviously better. I wasn’t gonna lose this one. These guys needed the win. They’ve been busting their tails week in and week out. Jimmy Paige, Billy The Kid, Horcon. All these guys have pitched in week in and week out. We’ve got a small group but it’s got big heart,” said Dowling.
Dowling believes Williams drove him clean.
Williams finished second in the event. He told 22News about his second place finish in the event
“He just got the better of us. I thought if it would’ve stayed green. We would’ve definitely won it. It’s racing stuff happens,” said Williams.
Mike Willis, Jr finished in third. Todd Owen finished in fourth and Dylan Rock rounded out the top five. Jeff Gallup out of Agawam finished in sixth. Artie Pedersen, III finished in seventh. Dan Meservey, Jr finished in eighth. Carl Mederios, Jr finished in ninth and C.J. Bolton rounded out the top 10.
John Zych, Jr took down the win in the NEMA Lites opener. Jacob Perry took down the win in the EXIT Realty Pro Truck Series. Shawn Monahan won the EXIT Realty 375 Sportsman race. Bryan Narducci won the Lite Modified race.
The next event for the Valenti Modified Racing Series will be the O’Reilly Auto Parts Spring Dash 100 at the Monadnock Speedway on Saturday, May 4.
