Red Sox fans in western Massachusetts celebrating ALCS win

The Boston Red Sox beat the Houston Astros on Thursday night, winning the American League pennant and setting off a celebration for players and fans alike.

“It’s amazing,” said Sox fan Frederick Beaudette.

“The amount of games that they won this year, it isn’t surprising,” said Michael Avery, a fan from Chicopee.

This win advanced the Sox to the World Series. 22News spoke to one fan in Chicopee who said there were a lot of memorable plays this post-season, but Mookie Betts made a catch he won’t ever forget.

“That phenomenal catch in game 4, then in game 5 it happened again, but you know, with the proper results,” said Douglas Fortin of Springfield.

This is the first time in five years that the Red Sox will be in the World Series.

“It was intense,” said Steve Wojaick of the 2013 series. “I’m waiting for that to happen again this year. That’s exactly what we want to see here in New England.”

But, not everyone in western Massachusetts is excited about the Red Sox postseason run.

“A Yankee belongs there! Yankees are the rulers, except this year,” said Anthony Seymour of New York.

The Sox will face the winner of the NLCS, either the Brewers or the Dodgers. The first game of the World Series is Tuesday, October 23 in Boston.
