Red Sox fans wake up early to purchase championship gear

Red Sox fans across the state woke up to find out the team had won the World Series Sunday night.

“I haven’t gone to bed yet,” said Red Sox fan Ron Greene. “I had to celebrate.”

In honor of the team’s big win Dick’s Sporting Goods stores opened three hours early at 6 a.m. to allow fans to grab their championship gear before they started their day.

“Every time they have a championship, I’m here first thing in the morning,” said Bob Green of Chicopee. “It’s great. It’s good to be part of the Boston family.”

22News was at the West Springfield store Monday morning where we saw a steady stream of people coming in to shop.

“I’m buying shirts for the people that work for me, and a couple of friends. And one for me,” said Greene.

While the store is sold out of hats they still have plenty of other merchandise for fans to support their World Series champions.

“It’s been an unbelievable year,” said Green. “We are all so proud of them. It’s exciting.”

Branches of the stores in the following locations also opened early:

  • Saugus
  • Danvers
  • Hanover
  • Worcester
  • Medford
  • Millbury
  • Dedham
  • Leominster
  • Northborough
  • Natick
  • Brockton
