SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – NBA legends made their way to Springfield this weekend for the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement.
More than 50 Hall of Famers were in attendance for the ceremony Saturday night. Hall of Famers Isiah Thomas, Jerry West, Charles Barkley and Tim Duncan, were just a few of the legendary players who presented during the ceremony.
This year’s class of 13 honorees included four-time NBA champion Manu Ginobili, five-time NBA all-star Tim Hardaway, and two-time Olympic gold medalist Lindsay Whalen, among others. Festivities kicked off Friday at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut and continued in Springfield Saturday night with a red carpet ceremony at 6 p.m.
Basketball’s elite and super fans from across the globe settled in Springfield Saturday night. And there was a strong contingent of fans from Argentina, San Antonio, and everywhere in-between in attendance to support Spurs legend Manu Ginobili.
“So it’s an hour and a half drive but it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Elan Rubin of Boston. “Not just like, Manu and the Spurs, but watching these legends that you hear about…. Unfortunately, I wasn’t old enough to watch them when they were playing, but seeing like Charles Barkley, the whole TNT crew, guys like Gary Payton walking by, just a very cool experience.”
The Enshrinement ceremony for the Class 2022 was broadcasted live from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on NBA TV.
