Springfield, Holyoke basketball players go head to head at all-star game

Sports

Kids from Holyoke and Springfield went head to head at the Hall of Fame Thursday night.

Players from the Holyoke Safe Neighborhood Initiative Basketball League and from the Sheriff Michael J. Ashe C-3 Basketball League matched up in skills competitions and games.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, the Police Commissioner John Barbieri, Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi and the District Attorney Anthony Gulluni along with members of local law enforcement were there to support the players and the initiative to give young people a positive way to use their time outside of the classroom.

“You know that you’re going to work harder, and practice so you can be better, and you’re all part of a team, so it’s like unity and friendship and things like that so that’s good,” Davian McDonald, a player for Holyoke, told 22News.

The event was sponsored by the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holyoke.
