Springfield Thunderbirds begin Goals for Groceries initiative

Sports

The more goals the Springfield Thunderbirds score this season, the higher the donation to the Western Massachusetts Food Bank to feed families in need.

The Springfield Thunderbirds have teamed up with the law firm of Alekman DiTusa to increase the Food Bank’s buying power.

For every goal the Thunderbirds score at the Mass Mutual Center this season, Attorney’s Rob DiTusa and Ryan Alekman will donate $30 the cost of 100 meals.

“I learned that 200,000 people in western Massachusetts use the Food Bank,” said Attorney Ditusa. “To me, that stuns me. One-third of those people are children. We take food for granted, I do and I always have.”

Since the Goals for Groceries initiative began, the Thunderbirds have scored ten goals during home games.

Their performance on the ice has generated 1,000 meals for the food bank.
