Stafford Motor Speedway announced earlier this week they will host a 13 lap shootout in honor of Ted Christopher. Christopher is the all-time winningest driver in track history with 131 wins. His first win came on May 23, 1986, and his last win came last September in the SK Modifieds. He won a total of eight championships in the SK Modifieds at the Connecticut half-mile oval.
“When we realized that July 13th was a Friday, we knew we had to do something special,” explained Stafford Speedway General Manager Mark Arute in a news release.
“We will run the full 40 lap SK Modified® race, take the top 13 finishers, line them up and run a 13 lap shootout. No pitting, no adjustments, just 13 laps for the TC Trophy and $1,300.”
The TC 13 will pay the winner $1,300 dollars with the full purse base on sponsor contributions. George Bierce has committed $500 dollars towards the event. The goal is to have the purse at $6,000 dollars.
“Talk about the show of the summer. We’ll have our full weekly program, an 80 lap open modified race, and the additional 13 lap SK Modified® Shootout,” continued Arute. “Teddy would have loved this show. Another 13 laps to thrill the fans and pocket $1,300.”
There will be a full night of racing on July 13 as the second Open Modified 80 will return. Tommy Barrett took down the first Open Modified 80 back on June 8. The Late Models, Limited Late Models, SK Lights, and Street Stocks will also be apart of the racing program on July 13.
