SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Thunderbirds bringing the thunder to the ice and fans back home bringing the thunder to TAP Sports Bar in Springfield.
The community came together Saturday night to show their support at a watch party decked out in red white, blue and yellow.
“Win! Win! I want to see them get a lot of goals and the other side get nothing, ” said Diane Durkee of Springfield.
“It’s absolutely amazing,” added Stacy Arsenault of Springfield. “So much more fun watching here than watching from home all by myself on a TV…. just the community, the cheering when we score it’s just absolutely amazing. It’s a wonderful group to be apart if.”
Stacy was joined by her friends to watch the big game. On Friday night the Laval Rocket tied the series with the Thunderbirds. So tensions were certainly high to see who takes the lead before Monday night’s game.
“I’ve been a ticket holder since 2014 and this is the first time that we got to the playoffs since and it’s just absolutely amazing to be here rooting for the team at home.” said Stacy.
22News asked fans if they have any messages for the T-birds.
“Do your job and don’t mess it it up,” said Philip Hamel of Agawam.
Lucy boudin of Chicopee added, “Bring home the win guys we stand behind you.”
The Thunderbirds scored with under 1 minute and 30 seconds left in overtime to narrowly skate past the Laval Rocket 3-2.
The Thunderbirds take the lead in the series 3-2, heading back home to the MassMutual Center on Monday night for game 6. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
