AIC fans came out to MGM Springfield Friday night to watch the Yellow Jackets hockey team take on St. Cloud State.

AIC played in the NCAA hockey regionals Friday night, a first for the team. They took on the number one seed St. Cloud State in Frago.

To help fans gather without having to make the trip to North Dakota, they held a watch party at MGM’s Commonwealth Bar. Space was limited, and the spots went fast.

“We have around 200 people that are here, we actually had to shut down our rsvp list around 8:30 this morning and we’ve been having to turn people down all day,” said Heather Gawron, AIC Institutional Advancement executive director. “But it’s incredible to see so much support from our community for our home town hockey team.”

The Yellow Jackets defeated St. Cloud 2-1, securing the lead in the third period. The team will play again tomorrow night, and they’ll celebrate with a watch party at the stinger pub on AIC’s campus.

Also, a dominating win for the UMass men’s hockey team.

The Minutemen won their first-round game in the NCAA tournament. UMass showed why they are one of the top teams in the country as they powered their way to a 4-0 shutout against Harvard.

UMass Hockey is playing in their first NCAA tournament since 2007. They’re ranked 1st in the Northeast region for the tournament and 4th overall in the nation.

UMass will now play Notre Dame at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
