BUFFALO (WWLP) – UMass’ Cale Makar has been named the winner of the 2019 Hobey Baker Award.
The Hobey Baker Award is presented to the best player in college hockey. Makar was one of three finalists for this year’s award, the others being Harvard’s Alex Fox and St. Cloud State University’s Jimmy Schuldt.
UMass Hockey has a chance to take the national title home to western Massachusetts Saturday night when they face the University of Minnesota Duluth. It’s the program’s first ever appearance in the national championship.
