UMass men’s hockey team is the number four seed in the NCAA tournament

UMass men’s hockey is going back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007.

They earned the number 4 overall seed in the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship bracket, which was announced on Sunday.

The Minutemen, who are making their second ever NCAA Tournament appearance, will be the number 1 seed in the Northeast Regional. This will be UMass’ first NCAA appearance since 2007.

They will play at Southern New Hampshire University Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire against number 4-ranked Harvard on Friday at 3 p.m.

The winner will advance to the Northeast Regional Championship.

“It’s definitely exciting,” UMass student Adrian Musiac told 22News. “Cale Makar is the best thing to happen on the team since Jonathan Quick, so it’s exciting to get behind the team. Hopefully, we come out champs.”

The winner will advance to the Northeast Regional Championship played on Saturday, March 30.

Other great news: the AIC men’s hockey team is also going to the NCAA tournament after a win over the weekend.

They will head to Fargo, North Dakota to play St. Cloud State on Friday.
