History in the making! The UMass Men’s Hockey Team will be playing in their first NCAA Championship Saturday night.

The show goes on for the Minutemen! The season of firsts continues for UMass. The Minutemen clinched a spot in the National Championship last night with a 4-3 win against Denver.

UMass won in dramatic fashion with a game-winning goal with just minutes left in overtime.

The Minutemen were back on the ice early Friday afternoon in preparation for Saturday’s championship game.

They’ll now prepare for Minnesota Duluth, one of the premier programs in College Hockey.

The fan festivities also continued Friday with an autograph session with NCAA 1st team all Americans in downtown Buffalo

One fan said he can’t wait for Saturday’s game.

“I’ve been watching the game since I was two, my dad and his buddy were one of the guys who brought hockey back,” said the fan. “Hope we get the national championship and bring it to Amherst.”

Friday night is also a big awards night for NCAA Men’s Hockey.

UMass’ Cale Makaar was named the winner of the 2019 Hobey Bakar Award, given to the best NCAA hockey player in the nation.
