UMass Minutemen host Hockey East Quarterfinals, first time in more than a decade

UMass Hockey ranked No. 2 nationally, is coming off its first-ever Hockey East regular season title win and they’re ready for postseason playoffs.

“Twenty-six wins that’s a school record, so we’re really excited,” said UMass Athletics Communications Director John Sinnett.

The UMass Minutemen are entering the postseason looking for a big win before heading to the NCAA Tournament.

Sinnett told 22News, Coach Greg Carvel built a winning program that led to the team’s successful season, which has gotten everyone excited for UMass Hockey this year.

“I think it really starts inside the locker room with their belief in each other,” Sinett said of the team. “Obviously, with the fan support that we’ve had from the community, from the students, everybody hoping on as we call it, ‘the wagon,’ and really getting behind the team and that’s just been awesome to see all year.”

Starting Friday night, the Minutemen are set to host the Hockey East Quarterfinal series for the first time since 2007.

And with two regular season games remaining following the regular season title win, Coach Carvel and the Minutemen have one goal in mind, “Beat New Hampshire.”

The puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
