Alina Bryden will race in the SK Lights division at the New London Waterford Speedbowl. Bryden told 22News that she is very excited to moving into the SK Light division at the New London Waterford Speedbowl. She is a junior at West Springfield High School.
“I feel like I have what it takes to become one of the top woman drivers in the racing sport. I know its going to be a learning curve for me in the upcoming season. I believe I have the crew and the people behind me to support when I need it. I am going to give my 100 percent into this going into the 2018 racing season. I am going to do what it takes to learn and improve in the upcoming season,” Alina said.
Bryden ran in the Pro 2 Modified in the Wild Things Kart division at Stafford Motor Speedway. A Pro 2 Modified is basically a smaller version of an SK Light. She ran the division on Monday nights at Stafford. The Wild Thing Karts helped Alina a lot going into her career. She ran in the Tiger A division and worked her way up into the Junior Outlaws in 2015 and then moved into the Pro 2 Mod. The Wild Thing Karts gave Alina a chance to start her racing. It gave her that platform.
In the 2017 season, Alina had a great season. She always ran up front. She started out in the Pro 2 winning three races. She always finished in the top three and was always fast.
The Bryden’s purchased the car from Eric Leclair in Easthampton. Alina’s dad Marc posted on his Facebook page that dreams do come true. Marc told 22News that he is so proud of Alina to see her grow in racing over the years.
“I watch her learn and improve. Always continiously moving forward and be respectful of other drivers and earn respect from other drivers as well and she finds that balance very good. To have our family Glenn Gagner, and Wade Gagner and Lauren Gagner, and Cam McDermott help us to set things up and help us become competitive. Its just been awesome,” said Marc.
The plan for Alina is to do a couple years in the SK Lights then hopefully get an opportunity to move up into the SK Modified division. Her long time goal is to move into the NASCAR divisions and maybe run in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour along with racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Alina and her father Marc have a tight bond where they are best friends. During the week, they are going to the shop working on the race car and setting up the car. Whatever they need to for the next race. For the last two years, she has helped Cam McDermott in the SK Modified division at Stafford and learn from him and took in all the information she could.
Alina will get to practice her SK Light next Thursday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. She is nervous but anxious at the same time. She has been practicing on the IRacing simulator.
If everything goes well with the practice session next Thursday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. They will race their first race on Saturday, May 19.
To the Bryden’s racing is more then just a hobby or a fun night out at the track. Its their passion that makes them love the sport.
