Massachusetts State Police say that a driver may have been checking his GPS when he rear-ended a state trooper’s cruiser on the Mass Pike in Boston early Friday morning.

According to State Police spokesperson David Procopio, the trooper, who had been working on a detail to protect a road crew on the Mass Pike eastbound just prior to the Prudential Tunnel, was inside his cruiser when it was rear-ended at around 4:40 A.M.

The trooper was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for minor injuries, but has since been released.

Procopio says that the driver of the car that struck the cruiser was distracted, and police believe he was looking at his GPS at the time of the crash. The driver will receive a citation.
