During this ongoing, oppressive heat wave, haven’t you wished you could escape into winter conditions even for just a few seconds?

Employees at Rondeau’s Dairy Bar in Palmer have been doing just that!

Since Rondeau’s sells a lot of ice cream, employees and owners have been making frequent trips to the freezer where they get to spend 20 or 30 seconds at a time in sub-zero comfort.

Rondeau’s employee Thomas Roberts describes going into the freezer as “You take a deep breath, it feels like the winter again; like you’re skiing down a mountain.”

“It’s very nice,” owner Michael Rondeau, told 22News. “And then reality sets in, your eyelashes get a little bit of frost if you stay in there too long. It’s a nice relief, but it actually makes the heat feel worse when you come out.”

As ice cream sales peaked during the heat wave, Rondeau’s employees made at least two trips each hour to the freezer.
