Believe it or not, winter officially arrives on December 21

Weather News

The snow continues to come down in West Springfield, making for some very slippery going on the roads.

It’s our first snowstorm of the season and it arrived a little earlier than usual. On average, we typically get our first inch of snow around November 23.

The snow really picked up during the evening hours and that made for some slippery roads.

Accidents and spin-outs were reported all across western Massachusetts. Plows along with salt and sand trucks were out clearing and treating the roads.

There were quite a few cars and even a few motorcycles out on the roads despite the slippery conditions. Some people are hoping to take advantage of the snow that falls.

“If it keeps up and we get enough and we get over 5 inches if we get over 5 I can shovel usually under that it melts,” said Dominic Pelletier of Chicopee.

Other people are pretty happy to have the snow.

“I like it especially having the summer that we had it looks nice refreshing from the heat this summer it’s okay I like it especially the kids love it,” Antoine Diaz of Chicopee told 22News.

Whether you like the snow or not, winter doesn’t officially arrive until December 21.
