Daylight saving time 2019: Get ready to spring forward!

Weather News

Can you believe it? Daylight saving time is already around the corner.

This weekend, we ‘spring forward’ one hour. Our sunset time Sunday will be 6:51 p.m.!

Daylight Saving Time officially starts at 2 a.m. Sunday, so you’ll want to spring forward your clocks this weekend.

Originally, Daylight Saving Time was introduced during World War I as an idea to conserve energy and to make better use of daylight. But many studies have refuted that, saying the amount of energy saved from using less artificial light is insignificant.

Others say it stemmed from the need to help farmers, but farm animals don’t care what the clock says, as they rise with the sun. But for many, this means darker mornings for longer as they wait for the school bus or drive into work early, and more sun for those who stay at work later than normal.

But those who work a normal 9 to 5 job won’t see a huge difference by Monday.

“I work outside so it doesn’t really matter,” said James Bouchard of Chicopee. “It should be daylight all the time.”

I’m sure many of us will enjoy sunnier evenings, even at the cost of the early-morning sun.

Sunset times:

  • December 5: 4:18 p.m.
  • March 5: 5:45 p.m.
  • March 9: 5:50 p.m.
  • March 10(Daylight saving time): 6:51 p.m.
