Eversource Energy teamed up with the City of Springfield to produce cleaner, renewable energy for local residents and businesses with two new solar energy farms.
This new solar facility on Performance Boulevard generates enough energy to power 900 homes in Springfield. And this new site, which houses 14,000 solar panels, in combination with Eversource’s entire solar power capacity in Springfield alone, is enough to power 2,000 homes.
Another relatively new solar site in East Springfield has 4,700 solar panels, which generates enough electricity to power 300 of those homes. The combined solar energy from Performance Boulevard and East Springfield removes more than 800 cars’ worth of carbon emissions every year.
And many locals agree that’s a step in the right direction to clean our air.
“I think so. That’s only–that’s the best way you can save us– let’s say save our planet, and things like that,” Antonio from Holyoke told 22News.
These two sites have been online since last summer and fall, bringing Eversource’s total solar locations in Springfield up to four, with older solar farms on Cottage Street and in Indian Orchard.
Eversource said they have 19 newer solar facilities operating across the entire Commonwealth which will increase their solar energy production to be enough to power 11,000 homes, an announcement made Tuesday.
