Fewer insurance claims due to milder winter weather

Weather News

It’s now the middle of Februaury and despite some snow and ice earlier this week, right now there isn’t a lot of snow on the ground or piled up on roofs.

In some past winters things looked a lot different around this time. Back in 2015 the snow was piled up high on roofs and some were even collapsing like this one in the Boston area. In the past we’ve seen some large icicles and ice dams forming on homes.

“I haven’t raked my roof at all this year and sometimes I think it’s real bad…Yeah for roofs and stuff I haven’t done anything and a few years back I was raking the roof a lot,” said Dan Kelly of East Longmeadow.

According to Bill Trudeau of the Insurance Center of New England, they’re not seeing a lot of claims due to winter weather.

“This year we’re not really seeing as many claims. There have been some with some of the heavy rain activity we had some unusually heavy rain for winter,” said Bill Trudeau, the president of the Insurance Center of New England.

Fortunately the mild weather we’ve had this season has allowed a lot of the snow to melt in between storms so that has kept if from piling up on our roofs.
