First accumulating snowfall possible later this week

Weather News

If you haven’t heard, there’s the potential for our first accumulating snow later this week.

We’re still about a couple of days away from our first winter storm of the fall, but here’s an early heads up about what we are looking at.

There’s the potential for the first accumulating snow later this week, arrival time late in the day on Thursday with snow before a transition to sleet, possibly freezing rain and then eventually rain before it wraps up by late Friday.

Still a few things can change between now and when the storm arrives as to what impact we see.

22News Snowfall Map

Factor’s we’ll be looking at:

Storm Timing: Earlier arrival time could impact some of Thursday afternoon instead of the evening. Later arrival lessens impact on Thursday with more of a focus on Friday.

Depth of Cold layer: Will impact how much of storm is snow, sleet, freezing rain or rain.

Speed of Friday warming: How soon will it transition from a mix to rain?

Elevation differences: Early season storm have general big differences from the valley to the hills.

We’ll keep tracking it all week.
