With wind around today, you may have been concerned about tree damage or power outages. We are in October, a month that’s particularly high as far as wind risk is concerned. With the changes of the season, we get more wind around this time of year, but there are some problems with that.
The trees have all their leaves and that adds weight when the wind blows, so the branches catch the wind and the combination either brings branches or whole trees down.
Not only that, but the ground is saturated after we’ve been so wet lately. The soil is loose and the roots can’t hold onto the ground as well. That means a higher power outage and tree damage risk.
If you think back to the October snowstorm, snow can be a problem this time of year as well. If it comes before the leaves have fallen off of the trees then tree damage and power outages can be other concerns. Snow isn’t very likely in October, but more so as we head into November.
We’ll be watching all these factors in what’s been a rather breezy Friday.
