CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Heat Advisory has been issued until 8:00 p.m. Thursday for eastern Hampden, eastern Hampshire, and eastern Franklin County for a heat index that will be around 100 degrees.
It will be another hot, humid, and hazy day. Skies will be mostly sunny, with a light breeze from the north. Dewpoints will be in the upper 60s and low 70s. There will be “uncomfortable” levels of humidity.
Chris Skutnik from Springfield says even though its hot and beautiful out, it’s important to hydrate, “We are drinking a lot of water definitely, we are running around playing in the splash pad as we mentioned. We did not get a chance to get in the pool this year but hopefully next year we will be able to do that.”
When it comes to this heat, safety officials are advising people to stay hydrated and avoid alcoholic and sugary beverages.
High temperatures will be in the low 90s with heat index values of 95 to 100 degrees. The “peak heat” of the week will be on Thursday, with highs in the low to mid-90s and heat index values in the low 100s.
If you’re looking for a place to cool down, you can go to your local splash pad or go to one of the seven cooling centers in Springfield.
There may also be some isolated showers late in the day on Thursday, but most should stay dry.
