High Wind Warning issued for all of western Massachusetts overnight into Thursday

Weather News

(WWLP) – Wind gusts up to 60 mph Wednesday afternoon and night could cause damage and power outages.

The 22News Storm Team has declared today a 22News Storm Team Weather Alert Day ahead of the potential for high winds and damage.

A High Wind Warning has been issued for Hampden, Hampshire & Franklin Counties from 2pm Wednesday to 4am Thursday. A High Wind Warning has been issued for Berkshire County from 1pm Wednesday to 5am Thursday.

The wind really starts to pick up this afternoon. Thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and increasingly mild air will come with the damaging wind threat. Temperatures will briefly warm into the mid to upper 50s, but then colder air will come into western Massachusetts quickly tonight.

The worst of the wind will come tonight from 7pm-1am, several hours after the rain has ended. Make sure you bring in loose objects from outside of your home and plan on the possibility of a power outage as tree branches or even whole trees could come down.

Stay with 22News as we continue to track the potential for wind damage tonight.
