Icy roadways, potholes could be a problem for morning commute

Weather News

You could be waking up to some icy roads and sidewalks Friday morning.

Thursday’s rain and warm temperatures melted quite a bit of snow, and that water froze as temperatures dropped below 32 degrees early Friday morning.

You could be waking up to problems like a frozen key lock or stuck doors. If you don’t have de-icing spray, Firestone recommends coating your car key with hand sanitizer, as it lowers the freezing point of water.

Ice could be an issue on roadways, particularly side roads, which may not be treated as well as the main roadways. The sides of the road in particular can be full of puddles that froze during the overnight hours.

Another issue you may encounter on the road Friday morning: potholes. The recent freezing and thawing has put stress on the roadways, leading to the formation of potholes that can not only be an annoyance, but that can also damage your vehicle.
