Massachusetts preparing aid to assist Hurricane Florence evacuees

Weather News

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy is one of many groups gearing up to help those affected by Hurricane Florence.

The academy’s training ship “TS Kennedy” is on standby to deliver aid to relief workers and any residents who chose to stay in their homes.

The Mass Maritime Academy Senior Vice President told 22News about the types of assistance that “TS Kennedy” would provide.

The National Weather Service said Wednesday was the last day for residents to evacuate and prepare.

Strong winds are expected to start as early as Thursday morning along the coasts of the Carolinas.

While Massachusetts is expecting no direct impacts from Hurricane Florence, the state is still planning to get involved.

Volunteers from the Red Cross of Massachusetts are already on their way to help with everything from setting up shelters, to providing logistical assistance.
