Over the last couple of days it’s been a bit on the cool side with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. On average we should be in the mid to upper 70s.

The numbers are in and May 2018 was the warmest May on record in 124 years. The average temperature across the lower 48 was 65.4 degrees, 5.2 degrees above average. Every state reported above average temperatures during the month of May.

Here in western Massachusetts we experienced temperatures in the 90s four days during the month of May. Two days at the beginning of the month and two days near the end of the month.

“I knew we had some warm days but I didn’t realize the whole month was so warm,” said Beth Steele from East Longmeadow.

“We had to break out our air conditioners a couple of times then you went back into the deep freeze,” said Denise Trinceri from East Longmeadow.

The average temperature for the United States during meteorological spring, March through May was 52.4 degrees, 1.5 degrees above average and is the 22nd warmest on record.
