While high temperatures will hover around seasonable averages the next few days, a cooldown is expected later this week.
Sunday, temperatures neared the 40s. Monday and Tuesday, we can look forward to highs in the 30s. But look ahead to Wednesday, we dip back into the 20s.
The real cold comes Thursday with highs in the teens, and lows nearing zero degrees.
Historically speaking, we are past the coldest time of the year in western Massachusetts. Highs average around 32 degrees this time of year in Chicopee.
And some locals say temperatures near zero are tolerable, as long as there isn’t a strong wind chill factor due to breezy conditions.
“Zero doesn’t bother me as long as there’s no wind. If there’s a wind, now zero gets really colder, and so you just add more clothes, and loose clothing, you got to layer,” Albert Rivers told 22News.
But even with light wind, temperatures that cold will still create a wind chill, or feels-like temperature, in the negatives most of Thursday.
The frigid high temperatures in the teens won’t last all week, but we will stay cold. Friday and Saturday we’ll make it back into the 20s.
