North, South Carolina residents evacuating ahead of Hurricane Florence

Weather News

We continue to track Hurricane Florence this morning as this destructive storm heads to the East coast.

Residents of North and South Carolina are bracing for this extremely dangerous storm, continuing to evacuate leaving behind their homes and belongings.

Nearly 1,000,000 people are expected to leave their homes on the East coast ahead of Hurricane Florence.

Governor Henry McMaster of South Carolina issued an evacuation for several coastal areas Monday afternoon.

Monday Governor McMaster also ordered lane reversals Monday, to help speed up the evacuation process which means all the traffic is going one way, away from the coast.

Vehicles were seen bumper to bumper on Interstate 26 in South Carolina, with residents leaving these areas before the hurricane makes landfall.

Those deciding to brave the storm are loading up on food and fuel and other necessities.

McMaster also took to Twitter urging any residents with questions about ongoing hurricane preparations to call the states emergency hotline.

September is national preparedness month and FEMA is urging residents to be prepared for emergencies.
