Western Massachusetts is looking at some extremely cold temperatures Monday. 22New is working for you with some ways to protect yourself from the cold.
According to Baystate Health, the most common cold-related problems are heart attacks, hypothermia and frostbite.
Heart attacks are more prevalent during the winter months when cold weather can place a strain on your heart.
There are some steps you can take to prevent hypothermia:
- Dressing in layers
- Avoiding the wind and getting wet while outdoors
- Taking breaks inside to warm up during outdoor activities.
When it comes to frostbite, the most susceptible body parts are fingers, toes, ear lobes, and the nose–so it’s important to keep them covered.
