CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for all of western Massachusetts from 7 a.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Sunday.
A few flurries or light snow showers are possible before 10 a.m. Snow will become steady between 10 a.m. and noon. By noon, some sleet could be mixing with the snow near the Connecticut border with Hampden County. The sleet will slowly work its way north through the afternoon hours.
Northampton and south will be mostly sleet and some freezing rain or plain rain in the afternoon. North of Northampton, it will be mostly snow, with some sleet in the afternoon. The sleet and rain will continue through the evening. Temperatures will be close to freezing all day on Saturday & Saturday evening, so road treatments will be effective. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s.
You certainly should give yourself extra time & extra caution to drive to your destination on Saturday. A coating to 5 inches of snow/sleet is possible. Lighter accumulations will occur south of the Mass Pike where we’ll see more of a mix and higher amounts will be in Franklin and Berkshire Counties, where you’ll see more snow. Precipitation should taper off toward daybreak Sunday.
As your heading out this weekend on your morning commute be sure to keep an eye out for slippery road conditions from Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. So be sure to slow down and use caution while traveling.
