Some local residents excited for the first significant snow of the season

Weather News

This winter storm is bringing with it a little bit of everything, snow, sleet and even freezing rain is a possibility.

Saturday night marked the first significant snowfall of the winter season and thousands of flights were canceled for the day, including flights at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

The snow came later than expected, but our 22News crew caught the first flurries on camera in Chicopee.

22News spoke with Brett Geoffrey from Chicopee who is excited for a white winter, “[It’s been] kind of a slow winter really, I hope it gets a little colder here and we get some more snow because I love the snow.”

Overnight temps will drop quickly and make for slippery conditions as the heavy snow and sleet will continue to pile up into Sunday.

If you’re traveling be sure to take it slow, we will continue to bring you any updates as the winter storm approaches.
