Tips to avoid damage to your home after a winter storm

Weather News

It may be the first day of March but there is more winter weather in the forecast.

Winter isn’t over yet and there is more snow on the way.

Winter storms along with very cold temperatures have caused about a $1 billion worth of damage in the United States so far this year.

It’s important to take preventative action after a winter storm or it could end up costing you a lot of money to repair your home. You should look for snow and ice collecting on your roof.

“You want to make sure you check your roof for ice dams,” said Bob Parent of Rocky’s Ace Hardware. “Check for large quantities of ice on your gutters make sure your gutters are clear. You want to make sure your drains and the end of the gutters are cleared out so that when the water does melt it runs away from the house.”

You can also get roof melt tablets that can be tossed onto your roof. They’ll melt the ice dams so the water can drain off your roof preventing damage from occurring.
