It’s easy for us to stay warm on a cold night, but pets and stray animals need help on a chilly night.
Many of us with pets can just bring them inside to warm right up with us. But stray animals aren’t so lucky.
If there is a stray cat you worry about, now that we’re into fall, there is a way to help.
The Dakin Humane Society has online instructions for a do-it-yourself cat shelter, as they’re more common than stray dogs.
A lot of the time when dogs are left out, sadly, it can be by their owner.
“So if you ever notice anything and you see a dog somewhere and you think they are out in extreme temperatures and they shouldn’t be, the first call you want to do is your local town animal control, which you can easily access through the police department,” said Carmine DiCenso, Dakin executive director.
For your own dog, if you need to bring them outside in the cold, don’t ignore the paws.
Coats are great, but if your dog can stand them, use booties because the cold pavement can easily harm them.
