Unusually cold, windy spell soon coming to a close in western Massachusetts

Weather News

SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – The past few days in the Pioneer Valley have felt frigid. But the temperatures weren’t all to blame.

After all, highs only ranged from the mid-20s to low 30s which isn’t that far off from normal.

It was the strong winds creating feels-like temperatures in the single digits and teens that created the chill.

But although it felt much colder than it really was, some local residents have noticed it’s still not as cold as it has been during some winters in the past, including last year.

“No, it’s been a pretty average winter as far as temperature wise. So the only thing that I really like is we don’t have the snow,” Bob Cervonayco from Chicopee told 22News.

And we will finally come out of this cold spell this week. Tuesday and Wednesday we will warm to temperatures above the normal high for this time of year, which is 31 degrees in Chicopee.

Winds will calm down quite a bit too, so wind chills won’t be much lower than that forecast. And the slight warm-up will make it that much easier to get active outside again.

If you’re looking for a way to get fresh air and exercise during the winter, all you need to do is bundle up to walk the dog, or simply go on a jog or brisk walk.
