Winter 2019 had less snow than average

Weather News

Thursday is the first full day of spring. Our snowfall this winter was a bit below average.

It’s now spring and most of the snow is gone in the Springfield area. At Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee on average, we’ve usually had 45 inches of snow by now.

So far this season we’ve had 38.5 inches, a deficit of six and a half inches.

22News spoke with Walter Richter, a local resident, who said, “I didn’t think it was too bad for snow we didn’t really get any heavy, heavy snows I mean the snow was heavy but 6, 7 inches at a time it was not as bad as we’ve had in past winters.”

Except for some snow piles, most of the snow is gone in the valley but there is still quite a bit of snow on the ground in the Berkshires and in the hills.

And even though winter may be over we can still get snow right through April.
